摘要: Untreated pain is a major health care issue and very little known about the treatment of effect on post-operative outcomes in older adults. This study was performed to identify impact following hip fracture Four hundred eleven consecutive cognitively intact patients admitted with four New York hospitals were enrolled prospective cohort study. Patients interviewed daily using standardized assessments. We used multiple logistic regression ordinary least squares linear examine association immediate (duration stay, physical therapy sessions missed or shortened, ambulation surgery, complications) 6 months (locomotion, mortality, return community, residual pain). higher scores at rest had significantly longer hospital lengths stay (P=0.03), more likely have shortened (P=0.002), less be ambulating by day 3 (P<0.001), took ambulate past bedside chair (P=0.01), lower locomotion (P=0.02). Pain not associated complications, nursing home placement, survival months, months. Post-operative increased length delayed ambulation, long-term functional impairment. Whereas appropriate caution warranted administering opioid analgesics adults, these data suggest that improved control may decrease enhance recovery, improve outcomes.
