摘要: Populus cathayana Rehd., a dioecious tree species, occupies wide range of habitats in southwest China. Both males and females were grown under two regimes photoperiod, from mid-length to short-day photoperiod (SD shift), or long-day (LD shift). SD shift triggered leaf senescence both by decreasing net photosynthesis rate (A), transpiration (E), chlorophyll pigment (Chl), non-structural carbohydrate (NSC) indoleacetic acid (IAA) contents, while increasing abscisic (ABA), malonaldehyde (MDA) free proline (Pro) contents. The antioxidant enzyme (e.g. POD, CAT SOD) activities capability maintain ultrastructural integrity also decreased shift. Males exhibited faster than did females, as shown greater decreases A, E, Chl IAA. However, maintained less senescent stage indicated higher values Chl, NSC, IAA activities. Conversely, NSC contents enhanced lower O-2(center dot-) whereas reduced LD Such sex-dependent responses P. transitions showed that possess different adaptabilities, which may relate sex-specific speed changing environments.
