摘要: Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalent age, pattern of presentation, histopathology type, and outcome management laryngeal carcinoma in our environment. Design Setting: was a 10-year retrospective carried out at teaching hospital. Materials Methods: Records patients managed for from January 1994 December 2004 were reviewed. Only 13 cases with tissue diagnosis included this review. The sex, occupation, use cigarette alcohol, investigations, histology, management, duration follow-up extracted analyzed. Results: had mean age 69.9 years (range 38-88 years) male-to-female ratio 12:1. Histopathology squamous cell all. Symptoms hoarseness voice breathlessness all, cough 7 (53.8%), weight loss otalgia 6 (46.2%). Two indulged alcohol two also regular smokers. All presented stage IV disease respiratory distress necessitating emergency tracheostomy. Seven (53.8%) total laryngectomy plus postoperative radiotherapy while 2 (15.4%) pharyngolaryngectomy, thyroidectomy, radical neck dissection thyroxine supplement. Surgical complications pharyngocutaneous fistula patients, pharyngeal stenosis, stomal hypocalcemia hypothyroidism 1 patient each. fistulae conservatively prognosis good despite late presentation. Conclusion: Laryngeal mainly occurs males. Presentation is community. Soft-tissue x-ray useful diagnostic tool. Scarce centers, ignorance, local taboo, poverty, poor recognition by primary healthcare providers have negative impact on its management. should be excluded when managing elderly bronchial asthma.
