摘要: Objective: To examine frequencies and relationships of 5 common neuropathologic abnormalities identified at autopsy with late-life cognitive impairment dementia in 2 different panels. Methods: The Nun Study (NS) the Honolulu-Asia Aging (HAAS) are population-based investigations brain aging that included repeated assessments comprehensive autopsies. assessed were Alzheimer disease (AD) changes, neocortical Lewy bodies (LBs), hippocampal sclerosis, microinfarcts, low weight. Associations screening tests for examined. Results: Neuropathologic occurred levels ranging from 9.7% to 43%, independently associated both studies. Neocortical LBs AD changes more frequent among predominantly Caucasian NS women, while microinfarcts Japanese American HAAS men. Comorbidity was usual very strongly impairment. Apparent resilience (no despite Braak stage V) minimal or no comorbid abnormalities, fewer lesions, weakly longer interval between final testing autopsy. Conclusions: Total burden rather than any single lesion type, most relevant determinant cohorts, often clinical diagnosis only AD. These findings emphasize challenges pathogenesis intervention research accurate diagnoses during life.
