摘要: In the century since description of orthoclad genus Paratrichocladius Santos-Abreu (Diptera: Chironomidae), separation in any life stage from cosmopolitan, diverse Cricotopus Wulp has been problematic. Molecular analysis reveals presence two species Australia that conform morphology to and which form a well-supported clade including micans (Kieffer) Africa distinct southern African larva. This clusters with taxa allied albitibia (Walker), turn nested within all other sampled Australian Cricotopus. Relevant nodes strongly support as nonmonophyletic without inclusion Paratrichocladius. We synonymize syn.n, treating subgenus. (Paratrichocladius) australiensis Cranston sp.n. is described for Trichocladius pluriserialis Freeman Australia, not same under name New Zealand. bifenestrus described, also stages. The many new combinations, listed an Appendix, include three replacement names secondary homonyms, namely: sinobicinctus & Krosch nom.n. bicinctus Fu, Saether Wang, draysoni brevicornis Drayson, Cranston, sikhotealinus Makarchenko orientalis Kieffer. conclude comments on wider issues taxonomy Paratrichocladius, especially concerning Zealand species.
