摘要: Oral leukoplakia (OLK) and its more aggressive clinical variant proliferative verrucous (PVL) remain enigmatic disorders clinically histopathologically. Despite decades of research into both, there has been only incremental advancement in our understanding their aetiology pathogenesis minimal improvement effective management strategies. Currently, no specific prognostic genetic or molecular marker reported for leukoplakia. There is, however, an emerging body evidence characterising the genomic transcriptomic profile OLK. Regardless significance cellular architectural features OLK PVL, it is clear from studies this review that new points to presence premalignant subtypes which require further investigation. This up-to-date explores contemporary genomic, mutational landscape broadly, discusses concepts may not be widely recognised accepted purposefully highlights with juxtaposed findings effort challenge dogma. It also urgent need a concerted international original collaborative will occur by pooling collective efforts, resources intellect define fingerprint disorder, hope better inform diagnosis, stratification treatment.
