摘要: Alternative splicing or expression from an alternate promoter can produce variants of a gene. To determine whether the p21 Waf1/Cip1 locus is regulated by these mechanisms, we searched for and found two transcripts, p21B p21C, that are expressed in first intron While p21C encodes cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, novel protein transcript ubiquitously 16 human tissues tested. Like p21, both induced DNA damage, p53, other p53 family members through proximal response element p21C. However, unlike which induces cell cycle arrest, overexpression apoptosis. These findings indicate expresses at least structurally distinct, but functionally related, gene discrete promoters.
