摘要: School of Biological Sciences, Victoria University Wellington, New Zealand(Received 28 June 2013; accepted 17 September 2013)The foliose red alga Schizymenia apoda (Schizymeniaceae) is reported for the first time in NewZealand waters. Its identity was confirmed by rbcL sequence data and morphological observations.This has been from both Atlantic North Pacific and, although it veryvariable colour habit, easily distinguished morphologically presence refractivegland cells (visible surface view), large cystocarps with a pronounced ostiole, lack oftetrasporophyte blades. Although not as an introduced species elsewhere, Zealand S.apoda collected at ferry terminal on pontoons pilings marinas WellingtonHarbour. It also discovered Otago Harbour. The examination herbarium specimens andrecent collections areas outside harbour resulted only few samples that could bereferred to this species, leading us consider new introduction.Keywords: record; Zealand; rbcL; apoda; Schizymeniaceae; Rhodophyta;taxonomy
