摘要: Juvenile homicide remains a serious problem in the U.S., despite recent decreases juvenile arrest rate for murder. Reflecting on her clinical experiences evaluating 90 adolescent murderers, author identifies 15 factors that appear to have contributed escalation beginning mid-1980s. These can be grouped into five categories: situational (child abuse and neglect, absence of positive male role models), societal influences (the crisis leadership lack heroes, witnessing violence), resource availability (access guns, involvement alcohol drugs, poverty resources), personality characteristics (low self-esteem, inability deal with strong feelings, boredom, poor judgment, prejudice hatred), their cumulative effects (little or nothing left lose biological connection). Strategies reduce violence are addressed using parents, schools, communities, government leaders, media, individuals.
