摘要: Abstract China features a fast-growing mining industry with mounting environmental problems. This study examines the dilemmas posed by this growth from perspective of credibility and conflict. In doing so, we assess source of, actors, timing, intensity, outcomes linked to, mining-related conflicts using Conflict Analysis Model. Based on set court decisions (n = 123), can be grouped according to: 1) land acquisition; 2) mining-induced subsidence. We ascertain that to acquisition feature low intensity; revolve around disagreement over (illegal) rents (instead legally required expropriation); are between villages/farmers versus companies. However, subsidence high compensation; farmers government. It is concluded institutions governing sector double-edged sword. On one hand, rules lease function as an ‘empty institution’ rural illegally leased companies rather than formally expropriated. situation facilitates mineral exploitation while gaining collusion government, companies, villages, farmers.
