摘要: Pneumococcal meningitis is characterized by high rates of mortality and long-term cognitive impairment. In this study, we evaluated the effects interleukin (IL)-1β receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) on memory, cytokine, brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in hippocampus after experimental pneumococcal meningitis. In a first experiment the animals were divided into four groups: control/saline, control treated with IL-1Ra, meningitis/saline, and meningitis IL-1Ra. meningitis/saline group IL-1β cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant-1 (CINC-1) increased at 24 h post-infection; adjuvant treatment IL-1Ra reversed hippocampus. The tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, BDNF did not change all groups at post-infection. second experiment, subjected to behavioural tasks (open field, step-down inhibitory avoidance task, object recognition task), analysis 10 days meningitis induction. open-field exhibit difference between training test sessions, motor exploratory activity indicating memory injury. The meningitis/IL-1Ra presented difference between test session habituation memory. showed impairment in long-term for novel aversive prevented memory After was evaluated. BDNF were maintained elevated CINC-1 only IL-1β decreased meningitis/IL-Ra group. TNF-α These findings illustrate the anti-inflammatory inhibitor hours induction. Adjuvant treatment with IL-1β could be new avenue as therapeutic target during bacterial
