ACUTE POISONING IN CHILDREN

摘要: Objectives: To find out the common causes of poisoning in infants and children. Methodology: In a retrospective cross-sectional study we evaluated all & children who were hospitalized due to acute between 2001 2004 two Ahwaz university hospitals. Results: One hundred forty three cases evaluated, 71% poisonings occurred age range 1-5 years. Causes accidental ingestion (77.8%), given by others (16%) suicide attempts (6.2%). The most ingested substances petroleum products (16%). Alkaline cleaners (12.6%), Opiates (11.9%), Tricyclic Antidepressants (8.4%) Benzodiazepines (7.7%). About 2.8% multi-drug poisoning. agents which accounted for below 6 months old. Decreased level consciousness (67.6%) vomiting (50%) signs symptoms. There was no mortality this study. Conclusion: Petroleum are still source but their frequency is decreasing. Parents should be educated about harms some herbal containing opiates on safe storage medicines household products.
