摘要: We examined the free amino acid composition of hemolymph from representatives five spider families with an interest in knowing if profile orb-web-building spiders reflects high demands for small organic compounds sticky droplets their webs. In nearly all analyses, on both orb and non-orb builders, glutamine was most abundant acid. Glycine, taurine, proline, histidine, alanine also tended to be well-represented builders. While indications taxon-specific differences were observed, it not apparent that two presumptive precursors (glutamine, taurine) web droplet uniquely enriched araneids (orb builders). However, total concentrations invariably highest especially so overwintering juveniles, even as several essential acids declined during this winter diapause. Comparing data study those earlier studies revealed a number discrepancies. The possible origins these are discussed.
