摘要: A new cistecephalid dicynodont, Sauroscaptor tharavati gen. et sp. nov., is described from the upper Permian Kundaram Formation of India. This taxon represented by specimens formerly referred to African dicynodont genera Cistecephalus and Emydops. can be distinguished other cistecephalids extremely posterior position pineal foramen (overhanging edge occiput), bipartite nuchal crest, relatively narrow skull roof. The recognition as a distinct adds increasing evidence for high levels basinal endemism in this family. However, biogeographical patterns are complex, there no simple relationship between inferred dispersal ability based on body size endemicity within clades.
