摘要: Background. Injury to the sciatic nerve (SN) is a serious complication of intramuscular injection. Aim. The purpose this paper was identify factors associated with such iatrogenic injury in adults and measures that nurses may take prevent it. Method. A review English language literature undertaken applicable research studies determine information currently being disseminated on relevant injection procedure. Legal databases were also searched for pertinent court decisions. Discussion. evidence SN use dorsogluteal (DG) site injection. choice must be based good clinical judgment, using best available individualized assessment client. There wide agreement ventrogluteal preferable. If DG chosen, nurse have full appreciation anatomy proximate anatomic structures, able accurately landmarks boundaries, administer meticulous technique.
