摘要: As a consequence of the limited resources underdeveloped countries and interest developed ones, assessment chemical quality entire water bodies around world is utopia in near future. The methodology described here may serve as first approach for fast identification that do not meet good status demanded by European Water Framework Directive (WFD). It also allows estimating natural background (or reference values concentration) areas under study using simple criterion. The starting point calculation World-Wide Natural Background Levels (WWNBLs) Threshold Values (WWTVs), two indexes depend on concentration seven elements present sediments. These elements, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb Zn, have been selected taking into account recommendations UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) USEPA States Environmental Protection Agency), describe them concern with respect to environmental toxicity. The has exemplified case includes 134 sediment samples collected 11 transitional from 7 different 4 continents. Six considered met WFD. rest exceeded WWTVs, at least one elements. estuaries Nerbioi-Ibaizabal (Basque Country) Cavado (Portugal), sea inlet Rio San Pedro (Spain), Sepetiba Bay (Brazil) Yucateco lagoon (Mexico) belong group.
