摘要: We present here a review of the current glaciological knowledge Southern Patagonia Icefield (SPI). With an area 13,000 km2 and 48 major glaciers, SPI is largest ice mass in Hemisphere outside Antarctica. The glacier inventory recent variations are presented, as well thickness data its variations, velocity, ablation, accumulation, hydrological characteristics, climate changes implications for sea level rise. Most glaciers have been retreating, with few state equilibrium advance. Glacier retreat interpreted primarily response to regional atmospheric warming lesser extent, precipitation decrease observed during last century this region. general has resulted estimated contribution 6% global rise due melting small caps. Many characteristics SPI, particular balance, need be determined more precisely.
