Mining and poverty reduction: Transforming rhetoric into reality

摘要: Abstract This article critically evaluates the contribution that mining has made to poverty reduction, and assesses prospects for better performance in future. The starts from two assumptions mineral resources are a potentially great source of wealth poor countries, various ill-effects associated with “resource curse” not inevitable. It then directs its attention toward World Bank, leading advocate mining-led development an institution core mandate reduce poverty. Employing Bank's own conceptualization as analytical framework, demonstrates dismal empirical track record date reduction.
