A brief measure of attitudes toward mixed methods research in psychology

摘要: The adoption of mixed methods research in psychology has trailed behind other social science disciplines. Teaching students, academics and practitioners about methodologies may increase the use within discipline. However, tailoring evaluating education training requires an understanding of, way measuring, attitudes toward psychology. To date, no such measure exists. In this article we present development initial validation a new measure: Attitudes Mixed Methods Research Psychology. A pool 42 items developed from previous qualitative on along with measures was administered via online survey to convenience sample 274 psychologists. Principal axis factoring varimax rotation subset produced four-factor, 12-item solution. Confirmatory factor analysis separate indicated that higher order four model provided best fit data. factors; ‘Limited Exposure’, ‘(in)Compatibility’, ‘Validity’ ‘Tokenistic Qualitative Component’; each have acceptable internal reliability. Known groups validity analyses based preferred orientation self-rated skills, convergent divergent towards as scientist practitioner orientation, provide measure. This brief, internally reliable can be used assessing psychology, measuring change part evaluation education, larger programs.
