摘要: The results of a series 85 constant level balloon flights conducted during the IGY period to measure cosmic rays and other types radiation at high altitude are summarized. Each flight carried an ionization chamber, Geiger counter, nuclear emulsions, remained approximately 10 g/cm/sup 2/ depth for times between 2 24 hours. majority were made Minneapolis, Minnesota. large decrease tn primary cosmic-ray intensity 1956 1958 was observed altitade. high-altitude measurements correlate with sealevel neutron instruments. Many special events detected, including x produced by electrons incident on atmosphere strong aurorae solar detected ten occasions correlating known observations in polar regions. In one case gamma originating surface short burst. Several cases radioactive layers low resulting from explosions found. This paper summarizes entire program, amd gives instrumental details, summary published information, detailed analysis many data not heretofore published. (auth)
