A Review of Nutritional Requirements of Adults Aged ≥65 Years in the UK

摘要: Appropriate dietary choices in later life may reduce the risk of chronic diseases and rate functional decline, however, there is little well-evidenced age-specific nutritional guidance UK for older adults, making it challenging to provide advice. Therefore, aim this critical review was propose evidence-based recommendations adults (aged ≥65 y). Nutrients with important physiological functions were selected inclusion recommendations. For these nutrients: 1) from Scientific Advisory Committee Nutrition (SACN) reports reviewed retained if recent age-specific, 2) a literature search conducted where SACN not sufficient set or confirm searching Web Science up March 2020. Data extracted total 190 publications provided evidence support protein (1.2 g·kg-1·d-1), calcium (1000 mg·d-1), folate (400 μg·d-1), vitamin B-12 (2.4 fluid (1.6 L·d-1 women, 2.0 men) those y. carbohydrates, free sugars, fiber, fat fatty acids, sodium, alcohol general population are likely appropriate adults. Insufficient identified change all other nutrients. In general, significant gaps current research among existed, which should be addressed delivery tailored age group promote healthy aging.
