摘要: When two discriminative stimuli, each capable of maintaining a response, are combined, their compound will maintain frequency response greater than the frequencies maintained by individual stimuli. This has been called additive summation. The present experiments extended investigation this phenomenon to converse situation in which pre-aversive stimuli were combined. Each stimulus was reducing an ongoing response. combination these reduced relative below that resulting from either stimulus. Furthermore, compounding highly suppressive produced more suppression less-suppressive Evidence also presented suggest continued reduce responding even when single no longer effective. A fourth experiment demonstrated summation tendencies could not be accounted for terms intensity or sensory interaction.
