摘要: Mediterranean temporary ponds (MTPs) are very specialised and threatened habitats found in Mediterranean-like bioclimates worldwide. MTPs have received considerable attention over the past years because of multiple ecological roles they play landscape. Nevertheless, seed germination, dormancy, desiccation tolerance species living poorly investigated. Here, we reviewed these topics that germination data exist for only 48 species. While dormancy differs among species, mostly depends on cool temperatures (<15°C) which associated with main rainfall season light triggering seeds located close to soil surface resulting persistence buried until disturbances occur. Most seem amenable banking as a means ex situ conservation but worldwide comparative study is required better understand lifespan MTPs. In general, exhibit syndrome plastic response typical neither truly aquatic nor wetland plants. The importance conducting ecologically meaningful studies, including experiments conducted field has been highlighted gain further insights into dynamic processes vegetation test convergent evolution.
