Perceptions of Local Vulnerability and the Relative Importance of Climate Change in Rural Ecuador

摘要: Rural, natural resource dependent communities are especially vulnerable to climate change, and their input is critical in developing solutions, but the study of risk perception within among remains underdeveloped. Our multi-disciplinary research team used a mixed-methods approach document, analyze, conceptualize interacting factors that shape vulnerability explore community members’ perceptions role relative importance change compared other three rural Ecuador. Economic instability, lack access basic services, environmental degradation perceived as greater threats well being than increasing seasonal variability flooding. Programs policies directed at adaptation should integrate non-climate related stressors. findings also point need for collaboration across public health, poverty alleviation, management fields through practical targeting assistance populations.
