Age, diabetes and smoking in lower limb amputation for arterial occlusive disease.

摘要: The increased number of amputations for arterial occlusive disease noted in western countries is only partly explained by increasing numbers the elderly. A prospective analysis influence diabetes and smoking habits was therefore carried out. In 1978-81, 188 lower limb amputees Lund were examined classified as non-smokers, ex-smokers, light smokers heavy smokers. These figures compared with corresponding among age-correlated controls to a group hip fracture patients. material divided into men women non-diabetics diabetics. Smokers had much mean age at amputation. Out 23 not either diabetic, smoker or 80 years more. population study indicates correlation between amputation ichaemia. coincident increase cigarette consumption Sweden illustrated it suggested that should be routinely amputations.
