摘要: Objectives. We aimed to update the incidence rates of major fragility fractures in Italy, including those which do not result systematically hospital admissions, on basis hospitalization provided our previous researches. Methods. analyzed italian national discharge data from year 2002 2008 order determine age- and sexspecific hip, vertebral, humeral, forearm occurred people aged 40 100 years age. Re-hospitalizations same patients have been excluded analysis. Hospital adjusted taking into account recently published information concerning fracture-specific rates. Results. estimated a total 91,494 hip among old, with +18.1% increase across seven-year period. Women >75 old (n=55,950) accounted for about 60% observed both males females. Concerning males, highest was between 80 84 (about 5,000 fractures). Overall rate per 100,000 inhabitants computed 283.5, marked sex-specific differences. Clinical vertebral were be almost 61,000 2008, +6.3% over seven years. clinical 189.0, but this value doubled 75 95 For we 57,400 humeral 94,000 forearm/wrist fractures, +13.2% +0.7% period, respectively. 178.0, (up 600 over) women age, while wrist 298.0, top values 55 over. Conclusion. The burden osteoporotic Italy is still increasing. Preventive strategies reduce should carried out at regional level
