摘要: To identify the causal relationship between health care spending and infant health, we introduce a new instrument: number of infants born on given day in hospital. The thought experiment is crowded at-risk receive reduced because resource constraints are binding. Using detailed information every birth California from 2002 to 2006, find that hospital crowdedness impacts treatment intensity. We show OLS estimates overestimate benefits medical care. Our results suggest mortality additional negligible more intensive increases readmission rates.
