摘要: The human placenta is a critical life-support system that nourishes and protects rapidly growing fetus; unique organ, species specific in structure function. We consider the pressing challenge of providing additional advice on safety prescription medicines environmental exposures pregnancy how ex vivo vitro placental models might be advanced to reproducible test systems (HPTSs), refining weight evidence guidance given around compound risk assessment during pregnancy. pharmacokinetics xenobiotic transfer, dysregulated function pregnancy-related pathologies influx/efflux transporter polymorphisms are few caveats could addressed by HPTSs, not focus current mammalian reproductive toxicology systems. An international consortium, “PlaNet”, will bridge academia, industry regulators screen ability standardisation issues surrounding these models, with proven reproducibility for introduction into industrial clinical practice.
