摘要: Abstract The renewed interest in the use of fluorescent microscopy for malaria diagnosis prompted comparison Quantitative Buffy Coat technique (QBC) with old standard Giemsa-stained Thick blood Film (GTF) Ikeja General Hospital, now Lagos State University Teaching Lagos. Blood samples were collected from 353 patients, each examined QBC and GTF techniques. Of these, 68 positive GTF, 70 giving a rate 19.3% 19.8% respectively. was calculated as using standard. In general, females recorded higher percentages (58.6% 54.4%) than males (41.4% 45.6%) among those overall sensitivity 55.9% specificity 88.8%. negative predictive values compared to 54.3%, 89.4% respectively while concordance two techniques 82.4%. These lower reported previous studies. reduced further (33.3%) having low parasite density ( Plasmodium species but 86.7% infected individuals had falciparum , 7.5% P. malariae only 5.9% mixed infections. spite speed simplicity technique, it cannot be considered an acceptable alternative under routine clinical laboratory situation. However, its ease make important new tool malaria.
