摘要: This paper demonstrates the potential of dual polarization synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images in estimation leaf area index (LAI) boreal forests. The SAR data do not suffer from low sun elevation and frequent cloud cover, which often complicate use optical wavelengths for LAI retrieval area. analysis was based on a large number environmental satellite (ENVISAT) advanced (ASAR) alternating vertical (VV)/horizontal (HH) single-look-complex covering several test sites, subarctic, during summers 2003-2006. swath range IS1 to IS7 studied. In all linear regression with VV/HH backscattering ratio as independent variable could typically be used LAI. All swaths estimation, but larger incidence angles generally performed better. best results were obtained IS6. also together, better using diverse individually. error decreased essentially exponentially pixels averaged give one value. accuracy set average quality ASAR IS6 reached 0.1 when averaging 33 150, would correspond an about 2.2 km2 no overlap. spatial same
