摘要: Anaesthesia for Caesarean sections performed during 1982–83 at the Women’s Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal is reviewed, In a twelve-month period 535 were performed, representing 7.36 per cent of 7,263 deliveries. Many pregnant women do not have antenatal care and mean haemoglobin these mothers was 86g·L−1. absence an on-call anaesthetist obstetrics, more than 90 anaesthetics given by junior obstetric residents, using open drop diethyl ether without endotracheal intubation. Eleven patients developed postoperative chest infection; none there any suggestion inhalation gastric contents all recovered uneventfully. Of 18 maternal deaths 7, 263 delivereies this period, one occurred section. This due to uncontrollable haemorrhage attributable anaesthetic. For poor risk patients, unskilled hands, remains remarkably safe
