摘要: In 2008, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted seven criteria to identify Ecologically or Biologically Significant Areas (EBSAs) “…in need of protection, in open ocean waters and deep sea habitats”. This paper reviews history development “EBSA process”, which was originally driven by commitment establish marine protected areas beyond national jurisdiction, but has since broadened encompass possibility informing spatial planning other activities, both within jurisdiction. Additionally, summarizes ongoing efforts through CBD regional workshops describe EBSAs EBSA Repository, where information these is be stored.
