摘要: PURPOSE/OBJECTIVES To describe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in patients with cancer and identify nursing assessment intervention strategies. DATA SOURCES Discussion of recent research literature relation to oncology practice. SYNTHESIS 4%-19% experience symptoms PTSD. When PTSD routinely is considered as a risk for cancer, nurses can reframe intense psychological physiologic reactions or patient distress possible trauma implement appropriate interventions referral. CONCLUSIONS Patients may consequence their diagnosis, treatment, past traumatic episode. interfere patients' ability tolerate treatment return crucial follow-up care. date, no studies have explored adult cancer. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING Oncology help by interpreting the possibility mind, screening across illness trajectory, providing emotional support, teaching coping strategies, advocating further assessment, medical referral within multidisciplinary care team.
