摘要: Lesions consistent with exertional myopathy (EM) were documented postmortem in four North American river otters (Lutra canadensis) during translocation for a population restoration project. Clinical signs these included depression, anorexia and shock. Gross lesions one otter locally extensive linear, pale areas within the subscapularis, rectus abdominis, quadriceps, dorsal laryngeal muscles. Microscopic characterized by acute to subacute myofiber necrosis of varying severity, occurred variety skeletal muscles as well cardiac muscle otter. Based on observations, we conducted retrospective review records which experienced similar capture, transfer, holding protocols between 1995 1997, but successful outcome (n = 69). Significant elevations serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) creatine kinase (CK) observed 19 (28%) otters, may have been higher due delayed sample collection from some otters. However, none elevated enzymes exhibited clinical suggestive EM. These findings indicate that develop EM when translocated, many cases be mild or clinically inapparent.
