摘要: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are hypothesized to exhibit relative strengths in verbal and non-verbal reasoning weaknesses working memory speed of information processing. The purpose the present investigation was determine degree which this cognitive profile as measured by Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children—Fourth Edition (WISC-IV; 2003a) proficiency index (CPI; measure processing speed) general ability (GAI; reasoning) could accurately distinguish between a referred sample 79 school-aged students diagnosed ASD two non-clinical comparison groups: (a) 2200 children WISC-IV standardization (b) 216 psychoeducational testing whose school-based evaluations did not result diagnosis. Results indicated that exhibited significantly lower mean scores on CPI when compared control groups. However, diagnostic utility statistics randomly selected participant from subgroup would larger difference GAI than groups 51.9–66.0% time. Consequently, > score exhibits low accuracy individuals ASD. Psychologists who work applied settings cautioned against using group trends guide decision-making individual clients.
