摘要: The purpose of this study was to compare the dimensions peripheral airways in fatal asthma with those from patients nonfatal asthma, mild COPD, and normal lung function. Lung specimens eight individuals who had asthmatic attacks were obtained at postmortem compared similar three died an unrelated cause four known required resection for tumor. These 15 lungs also resected neoplasms airway function (FEV1, % predicted > 85) chronic airflow obstruction < 85). All membranous a long-short diameter ratio 3:1 or less examined. smooth muscle tissue areas external internal layer traced using Bioquant BQ System 4. same system used evaluate fraction submucosa adventitia taken up by blood vessels. adventitial, submucosal, area greater than COPD control (p 0.01), 0.05). parameters 8 7 0.05).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
