摘要: Abstract Object Intramedullary spinal cord metastasis (ISCM) is a rare but devastating complication of cancer. Due to both widespread MRI availability and longer survival cancer patients, the probability discovering an ISCM during course disease has increased raised issues regarding management these particularly place surgery. In this study, we assess predictive factors for surgical outcome survival. Patients methods We retrospectively reviewed series 19 patients consecutively admitted in our institution from 1993 2006 ISCM, representing second largest published literature. was performed on all patients. Thirteen underwent microsurgical excision ISCM. Functional evaluated influencing were statistically analyzed. Results Median when surgery (7.4 vs. 2.6 months). Preoperative neurological status, nature primary cancer, presence systemic and/or CNS metastases influenced survival, differences without statistical significance. Neurological status improved 58% (11/19) operated Conclusions Optimal with difficult due wide variety clinical situations lack controlled studies results different therapeutic options. Diagnosis should be made as early possible resection considered treatment whenever feasible, case rapidly progressive deficits clear cleavage plane exists. Our study shows that could result rate significant improvement function.
