From people to places: focusing AIDS prevention efforts where it matters most

摘要: Objectives: To develop and implement a method to identify characterize places where people meet new sexual partners assess HIV prevention program coverage in those places. Methods: In three townships (populations 60000–100000 each) one business district (population < 20000) South Africa interviewers asked over 250 informants per area public sites partners. All reported were visited mapped. A knowledgeable person onsite was interviewed about the site its patrons. Individuals socializing at their behavior. Results: More than 200 each township 64 central identified visited. The male female ratio among patrons approximately 2:1. men women high rates of partner acquisition low condom use. Almost half 3085 1564 while having last 4 weeks. third meeting interview. Commercial sex rare but available 31% sites. Fewer 15% only 20% had condoms. Conclusion: PLACE successfully with partnerships can be reached for programs. Sexual networks these areas are extensive diffuse characterized by partnership formation concurrency little acknowledged commercial sex. (authors)
