摘要: Abstract For almost a century, it has been recognized that the present-day thickness and areal extent of Phanerozoic sedimentary strata increase progressively with decreasing geologic age. This pattern interpreted either as reflecting an in rate sedimentation toward present or resulting from better preservation younger part record. The study rocks themselves led to similarly opposing conclusions. observed secular (= age) variations relative proportions lithologic types chemistry were mostly given evolutionary interpretation. An opposing, uniformitarian approach was proposed by Garrels Mackenzie. most isotopes, consensus favors deviations steady state likely cause trends. chapter attempts show recycling evolution are not but complementary concepts. It will concentrate on chemical attributes sediments deal mineral deposits life, both well amenable outlined conceptual treatment.
