摘要: Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is considered a zoonotic infection in developed nations. A case of acute hepatitis researcher following scalpel injury while working on pig prompted seroepidemiologic study to identify potential modes transmission and determine the seroprevalence HEV among animal handlers at institute. Sera from personnel (n = 64) two facilities age/sex-matched blood donors 63) as controls were tested for IgG anti-HEV and, if positive, IgM RNA. stool pigs aged 6 12 weeks breeding farm older similarly. The median age was 36 years, 74% white, 56% male, had direct exposure pigs. prevalence 3.1% compared 3.2% donors; none positive or detected sera 10% 8 weeks, 80% 10 100% 76% >12 weeks. RNA but not three 12-week-old Sequencing revealed genotype 3 with ∼10% difference between patient sequences. Parenteral mode infection. low similar at-risk group age-matched suggests risk universal precautions handlers.
