摘要: Low-cost and rapid detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is important for the control water quality used protection downstream treatment processes. In this work, effect sub-toxic concentration VOCs on current output Escherichia coli in bioelectrochemical systems (BES) shown, light environmental sensing applications sewage networks. E. cells were grown carbon felt electrodes artificial water, to increase sensitivity decrease response time detection. Extracellular electron transfer was promoted by addition a biocompatible redox mediator, 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (HNQ). Among eight investigated, toluene most toxic coli, with limit 50 ± 2 mg L− 1 32 nA mg− 1. This work offers straightforward route enhance contaminants applications.
