Differences between Male and Female Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in a Multiethnic Population

摘要: Objective Male patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are thought to be similar female SLE, but key clinical characteristics may differ. Comparisons were made between male and SLE in the Hopkins Lupus Cohort. Methods A total of 1979 Cohort included analysis. Results The cohort consisted 157 men (66.2% white, 33.8% African American) 1822 women (59.8% 40.2% American). mean followup was 6.02 years (range 0–23.73). Men more likely than have disability, hypertension, thrombosis, renal, hematological, serological manifestations. diagnosed at an older age a lower education level. Women malar rash, photosensitivity, oral ulcers, alopecia, Raynaud’s phenomenon, or arthralgia. experienced end organ damage including neuropsychiatric, cardiovascular, peripheral vascular disease, myocardial infarction, died. In general, differences males females numerous striking whites, especially respect nephritis, abnormal serologies, thrombosis. Conclusion Our study suggests that there major SLE. Differences also depend on ethnicity. Future studies will need consider both ethnicity gender understand these differences.
