摘要: • Case records of 48 foals with pneumonia due to Rhodococcus equi were reviewed. Twenty the survived and 28 died or euthanized. There was no significant difference between survivors non-survivors in age onset illness, duration illness prior admission, mean white blood cell (WBC) count, plasma fibrinogen content. • All had R. isolated from a tracheobronchial aspirate lung specimens obtained at necropsy. All organisms susceptible vitro (Kirby-Bauer) erythromycin gentamicin. Susceptibilities other drugs were: trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (88%), tetracycline (87%), chloramphenicol (83%); 97% resistant cephalothin 83% penicillin. • Thirteen 20 surviving treated and/or rifampin. A decline mortality rate observed introduction combination Nonr 17 penicillin gentamicin survived. • Chronic, active, non-septic synovitis confirmed foals. These joint distension mild apparent lameness.
