Use of small intestinal submucosal implants for regeneration of large fascial defects: An experimental study in dogs

摘要: A single layer of porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) was sutured into a 5 x cm window created in the fascia lata ten adult mongrel dogs order to determine efficacy this material promoting tissue regeneration large fascial defects. similar defect contralateral limb left empty and served as negative control. Tissue examined grossly histologically at 6 12 weeks. By weeks, marked fibroplasia angiogenesis had occurred throughout SIS scaffold. The regenerated well organized showed good integration with adjacent while control specimens were filled loose areolar connective tissue. At weeks experimental defects that resembled normal fascia. There no evidence adhesions underlying musculature. Conversely, remained disorganized markedly thinner than results study suggest is capable supporting ability induce substantial area without musculature makes its application reconstructive surgery appear promising.
