摘要: An investigation of the high voltage breakdown thresholds for molybdenum and carbonbased electrodes used in ion thruster accelerator grids has been undertaken. The maximum electric field onset emission, threshold arc initiation, measured molybdenum, graphite, carbon-carbon composite, pyrolytic graphite with different surface treatments. Modification electrode surfaces due to arcing events, subsequent impact on hold off capability surfaces, determined voltages up 15 kV fields excess 100 kV/cm. damage is well characterized by amount charge transfer arc, not stored energy power supply. Both conditioning have observed, are related characteristics materials electrical breakdowns. was found be emission after Coulomb-transfer modification apparent SEM photographs surfaces. results suggest values reliable that should design optics using these materials. `these experiments carbon gaps 4 mm discussed.
