Correlation between cathode properties, burning voltage, and plasma parameters of vacuum arcs

摘要: Burning voltages of vacuum arcs were measured for 54 cathode materials and compared with literature data. As anticipated, a correlation between the arc burning voltage plasma temperature was found. However, more importantly, cohesive energy material could be demonstrated. This link property, energy, discharge voltage, is essential operation because determines temperature. Energy balance considerations show that this “cohesive rule” responsible several other secondary relationships, such as mean ion charge state boiling cathode.
