摘要: Abstract We studied the nocturnal foraging behavior of Surf Scoters (Melanitta perspicillata) and White-winged fusca) during winter in coastal British Columbia, Canada. Using radio telemetry, we collected diurnal data documenting frequency dives location scoters relation to their intertidal grounds. found that dive rarely occurred periods for either species. Only 2% observation blocks both scoter species contained diving, compared with 98% blocks. This corresponded an average only 0.1 min spent underwater per half-hour block night over 7 day. Both were located farther offshore deeper waters hours, indicating they not using areas at night. Our results suggest face daylight-imposed limits on amount av...
