摘要: An experimental system capable of supporting multimedia (image/video/data) on demand applications over an ATM network is outlined in this paper. The has been used to demonstrate both distributed document processing and video-on-demand scenarios that are expected be important for future networks. prototype employs a high-speed (2.4 Gbps) switch with appropriate signaling, control, transport application software enable fast reliable workstation access video/image information stored one or more "multimedia servers". current implementation consists the following key modules: (1) 2.4 Gbps (16/spl times/16) NEC XATOM Model 5 switch; (2) Sparc-2 workstations JPEG board interface; (3) Q.93B signaling call establishment; (4) traffic control congestion avoidance; (5) protocol; (6) documents, video-on-demand, etc. This paper outlines overall approach provides selected details about each major subsystems listed above.
