摘要: In this study, the influence of molecular structure (linear or with bulky side groups) polymer films covalently attached to Si surface on tribological properties is investigated. Two polymers, PE (polyethylene) and PS (polystyrene), are selected where has simple linear whereas but contains benzene groups located at sides chain. molecules, both reactive maleic anhydride groups, chemisorbed onto via an intermediate APTMS SAM (3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane self-assembled monolayer). Water contact angle measurements, AFM (atomic force microscopy), ellipsometry, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) used identify characterize films. Tribological studied using a microtribometer 4 mm diameter Si3N4 ball as counterface. Among two investigated, Si/APTMS/PE shown very low coefficient friction (0.08) high wear life (∼4,400 cycles) than those Si/APTMS/PS. Surprisingly, Si/APTMS/PS did not show any improvement in when compared that bare Si. The present study proves without good even it coated thin film hence such polymers can be thin-films for reducing substrates other materials.
