摘要: Abstract Pistil abortion is considered to be an evolutionary adaptation save resources in andromonoecious species, balancing the number of pistils with available. It follows that large-fruited species/cultivars should have greater levels pistil abortion. Working olive, we found abortion, expressed as percentage staminate flowers, was positively correlated average ovary mass at bloom, across cultivars different ovary/fruit mass. Since fruit mass, also The absolute perfect flowers per inflorescence negatively both and while increased parameters. total (i.e. staminate + perfect) not or suggesting male function affected. results support hypothesis related competition for among ovaries, suggest genetic differences olive may explained by their sink strength.
